We put in our kayak in front of the cottage we were renting with some friends on Squid Cove on the western side of Mt. Desert Island, Maine. The air was misty, not quite raining, not quite fog. A bald eagle on the shore of Squid Island lunched on a fresh fish it had snatched from the sea. Seals popped their heads up all around us as we quietly glided through their fishing territory past this small island.
