The new Whitney Museum in the Chelsea district of Manhattan has views over the Hudson River towards the Jersey City shoreline. On a bright sunny winter day, the sun low in the sky, the museum galleries were protected from the sun’s direct rays by mesh screens covering the huge windows looking across the river. This image, impressionistic and dreamlike, reminded me of some of the early photographers’ experiments.
