Strider

Heading east toward Bryce Canyon on Utah’s scenic Highway 12 one passes through Red Canyon. Short trails head into the back country filled with hoodoos and the bright red rocks which give the canyon its name. Dust from the red rocks is everywhere and the dry climate preserves dead trees for many many years. The desiccated juniper tree trunks one finds in these canyons may be several hundred years old. The twists in the trunk of this slowly decaying tree seem like the sinews and muscles in a very active athlete who is briskly walking through time.
