Red Canyon Formations

Our journey to Bryce Canyon took us on Utah’s scenic Highway 12. Heading east toward Bryce, the road passes through Red Canyon. Most people drive right past this wonderful U.S. Forest Service recreation area that has great hikes into the stunning back country. We took a couple of short trails, the Pink Ledges and the Birdseye. Towering rock formations of eroded limestone, called “hoodoos,” are plentiful here, and are a wonderful introduction to the sights and geology of the whole Bryce region.
