The Pope of Broadway

Several huge murals adorn the exterior of the Victor Clothing Company on South Broadway in downtown Los Angeles. This one, “The Pope of Broadway,” by Eloy Torrez, honors Anthony Quinn who was raised in nearby East Los Angeles. The incongruity of scale as the giant figure, a visual quote from “Zorba the Greek,” looms over a parking lot, is so quintessentially Los Angeles.
