Evening Through the Gate

We were on an evening walk in the hills above Berkeley after a visit with my parents. It was a spectacularly clear early December evening, and the Golden Gate Bridge, the icon of all that is California, was stunningly silhouetted against a brilliant multihued sky. Within minutes the color faded and all we could see of the bridge were the lights strung across it.
