With the mountains shooting thousands of feet nearly straight up into the clouds, the tops were always lost from view while we paddled out in Milford Sound. Waterfalls tumbled out of the clouds and down the cliffs to the Sound. The sheer scale of the region is mind-boggling, as witnessed by the tiny tour boat in the lower right of the photo, actually quite a large vessel. And paddling in the rain? Well, that’s what you come to expect in New Zealand in the autumn.
