Mahau Sound

At the tip of Marlborough on the South Island, jutting out into Cook Strait, the fourteen mile wide channel separating New Zealand’s two islands, is a series of deep sounds and long peninsulas. The main body of water, Queen Charlotte Sound, has hundreds of lesser coves and inlets. Our first view of the waters of this region was of Mahau Sound as we headed across the headlands from Havelock to Anakiwa to go kayaking for a few days.
