On our first day in Venice we just wandered around, getting used to the time change, getting over our jet lag, and just breathing in the smells, sounds, and sights of this amazing place. The late September sun, brilliant in its clarity, warmed us as we looked for a place to have lunch. Alongside one of the canals in the Cannaregio district, a resident stared out her window at the boats going by, enjoying the pleasures of the day just as we were.
