We ventured up to the tiny hill town of Oprtalj (Portole in Italian). Not much was going on there — children were in school, but there were almost no adults out and about. Only cats. Dozens of cats — sitting in the sunshine, begging for parts of our picnic, washing and looking beautiful. Someone else’s washing also looked beautiful in the bright fall sunshine.
