While some parts of the tiny village of Oprtalj are restored, well maintained, painted, and cared for, not every part of the village is as well endowed. This small corner with its enticing archway and stairway to a dilapidated doorway is indicative of what it may have been like in Yugoslavia before money began coming back to the town with the advent of Croatia becoming independent and joining the European Union.
