While bicycling through northern Italy, heading from Venice to Croatia, we passed by several poplar tree plantations. Their neat rows of tall leafless trunks, tightly packed for maximum growth, their light bark glowing against the nearly impenetrable darkness within, created dazzling moving moiré displays as I rode by. This one was near the nine-pointed star fortified city of Palmanova in the Veneto.
