A late afternoon thunder storm in early autumn brought a glorious rainbow to Point Imperial on the eastern edge of the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. As we drove back toward the Grand Canyon Lodge on the edge of the canyon for a fabulous dinner, suddenly the sun dropped below the dark clouds, casting its golden rays on this stand of aspens and pines. A few minutes later the wind picked up, causing the rain-soaked aspen leaves to “quake” in the breeze, before it began to rain with snow mixed in. And this after a day of hiking down into the hot and dusty canyon.
