Not all of Venice is in pristine condition. Much of the ancient city is slowly sinking into the waters of the Adriatic. A huge storm-control project is underway which is expected to alleviate the flooding problems faced all year around in Venice, the so-called “aqua alta” or high water. But due to flooding, many buildings suffer damage to their masonry walls causing some interesting textures and abstract imagery to appear.
