Rio San Trovaso

Connecting Venice’s Grand Canal with the Giudecca Canal to the south, the quiet Rio San Trovaso is a typical Venetian waterway. Flanked cheek-by-jowl by 18th and 19th century buildings, it is arched by several low bridges for foot traffic.

At one of these bridges, the Ponte S. Trovaso, stands the Cantine del Vino gia Schiavi, a famous wine store and bar which serves some of the best lunch sandwiches in all of Venice. After a glass of Prosecco and several little sandwiches, we were quite satisfied and able to continue our study of Venice.

Reflections of a sunlit building on the opposite bank danced on the surface of the canal right outside the Cantine.
