Snow Canyon Dunes

While driving back to Las Vegas and the horrors of civilization, we stopped at Snow Canyon State Park just north of St. George in southwest Utah. This little gem of a park is a geological marvel. The prominent feature is what they call “petrified sand dunes,” thin layers of red sandstone twisted and bent into wonderful patterns. In some places like brushed hair, in others like cobblestones, the patterns in the rock at the Petrified Dunes in Snow Canyon are at once puzzling and mesmerizing.
