Pāhoehoe Life

The lava from Mauna Ulu stopped flowing on the flanks of Kilauea in 1974. Most of the lava flows are still vast wastelands devoid of life. But seeds blow in or are dropped by birds, and slowly, slowly, life returns. There will come a time far in the future, long after Man has ceased to be, that soil will be thick and forests will once again cover this land.
