In a narrow almost lightless little street at the base of the Albaicín hill neighborhood of Granada, right across the river from the Alhambra Palace, I came across this small ceramic sign on the front door of a house. La Casa Chica (“The Little House,” not “The Girl’s House”) aptly described most of the residences in the neighborhood. Note the stylized pomegranate (“granada” in Spanish), the symbol of the city of Granada, which is seen all over the city in various forms: painted, carved, sculpted.
