Pakiri Sand Faerie
The beach at Pakiri on the eastern shore of the North Island, about an hour north of Auckland, is about eight miles of flat sand populated by thousands of “sand faeries,” the little runnels which often appear on a relatively flat beach between the tides or between the waves. Sometimes these little creatures they can look like dancers, sometimes like birds or flying dragons, and sometimes like nothing you’ve ever seen before. Their lives are ephemeral, gone with the next wave or the next tide.
