The Maori koru is an unfurling silver fern frond which symbolizes new life, growth, strength, and peace. This specimen, found in the Botanical Garden in Christchurch, is a perfect metaphor for the rebirth underway in the city. Devastated by two nearly back-to-back earthquakes, Christchurch is being rebuilt pretty much from the ground up and being redesigned in the process.
