Glacial Stream
Tumbling down from the high-up glacier into the Hooker River, this stream bears the ice-blue-white color of all of the glacial streams we saw. All around in Aoraki National Park we were witness to the disappearing mountains. Water, ice, freezing, thawing, and chipping away, the mountains are slowly breaking up into small pieces and falling down, only to be carried away by the streams and rivers to the sea. In fact, in 1994, Aoraki itself shrank by about 130 feet due to a landslide.
