Pula Colosseum
One of the most complete Roman amphitheaters as well as one of the largest, the arena at Pula (Pola in Italian) was started in about 2 AD by Augustus and added to by Claudius, then by Vespasian, and finally completed by Titus around 81 AD. That it is still standing after 2000 years is a testament to the Roman’s sound construction techniques. Today it is used as a venue for concerts, plays, films, and even ice hockey matches.
A detail of part of the ancient walls of the Pula Arena, the timeless aspect of this monument begged for monochrome reproduction, and in particular a sepia-tone treatment reminiscent of the mid- to late-19th century. The structure probably hasn’t changed much in the past 100 years or so.
