Souillac Angel
In the old town of Souillac in Périgord (southwest France), just across Rue du Pont from a bakery and viennoiserie (sweet pastry), if one looks up above the street level, this figure hides among the leaves of a grape vine growing up the side of the building. I am intrigued by these naïve figures on the sides of buildings, this one perhaps dating from the 12th century.
Several years ago in Italy I photographed another one in Manarola in Cinque Terre which I called Aristede’s Angel.
