Drawing Lesson

Gathered tightly around Edgar Degas’ famous sculpture, Petite Danseuse de Quatorze Ans (Little Dancer Age 14), dozens of young Parisian schoolgirls of about the same age as the little dancer, sketchpads in hand, observe her stance, her clothes, her realism. There are nearly thirty versions of this work in museums around the world, but this one at the Musée d’Orsay in Paris follows Degas’ original concept of having the sculpture displayed inside a glass case like some kind of anthropological artifact.
