Château des Milandes
Once the home of Josephine Baker, the African-American singer/dancer famous in Paris during the 30s and 40s, Château des Milandes sits high on a ridge overlooking the Dordogne. The château is now a museum devoted to the life of Ms Baker, while the grounds are the home to a daily raptor show. Bicycling past, our timing was perfect both for the museum tour and the bird show. Hawks, falcons, owls, and others were brought out into the formal garden to fly around and perform tricks, flying low over our heads and dazzling the small group of visitors.
