Château de Fénelon

Built on a hill above the Dordogne river valley in the 14th century, Fénelon is now a peaceful respite in the middle of a manicured park. During the Hundred Years War it passed back and forth between English and French hands.

After a long hot climb on our bikes up to the castle, we enjoyed a relaxing picnic lunch in the shade of a huge walnut tree just outside the castle walls. I was taken with the view of the patterns made by the double row of trees along the drive to the main gate.
