In the covered market in Old Havana, I met this gentleman selling vegetables and rice. He saw me with my camera and signed for me to take his picture. I nodded, and he set up to slowly pour rice into his scale. The flash caught the individual grains in mid-fall, a nice touch. But more important, my creating this picture has allowed this man to leave Cuba (at least his image), traveling to the United States, and now, via the Web, to the rest of the world, something he otherwise would never have been able to do.
