Antediluvian

Bryce Canyon is by rights one of the great wonders of the natural world. Even though its climate is basically a dry desert, the forces of erosion — wind, water, and ice — are constantly at work. Someone has said that the dessicated juniper tree trunks one finds in the canyon may be several hundred years old. Many of the twisted and contorted trunks seem to hold figures, spirits from earlier lives locked in the juniper forever, like this creature. Perhaps the rest of his kind were not allowed on the Ark at the time of the Great Flood and therefore are no longer with us.
