Located in the hills above downtown Portland, Oregon, the Hoyt Arboretum is a wonderful resource for anyone interested in west coast flora. We visited one afternoon after a morning rain, not unusual in Portland, and came across this Pacific madrone whose bark, still wet from the rain, just leapt out with color.
